The UBFM represents its members to organizations, associations and enterprises which have direct relations to the production, dissemination and exposing of audiovisual production

The UBFM is involved in the development of various areas of the film industry. This includes:
- the protection of Bulgarian cinema.
- the development of the film theory and film history.
- the aesthetic education of the cinemagoers.
- the optimization of the organization, financing, technologies and technical advancement of the production.
- the dissemination and exposing of audiovisual products.
- The Union provides legal consultations and procedure representation of its members.
- The Union supports the health protection and relaxation of its members. It supports own recreation centers, bases and clubs.
