Leica Oskar Barnack Awards 2018

International call for entries for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2018. Professional photographers may apply for this award. Emerging photographers aged under 25 can apply for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer.

The winner of the "Leica Oskar Barnack Award" will receive a cash prize of EUR 25,000 as well as a Leica M camera and lens worth approx. EUR 10,000. The winner of the "Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer" will receive a cash prize of EUR 10,000 and also a Leica M camera and lens worth approx. EUR 10,000. The other ten finalists will each receive a cash prize of EUR 2,500.

All entries for the Leica Oskar Barnack Awards 2018 must be made via the online Application Form between March 1 and April 5, 2018.

The “Leica Oskar Barnack Award” competition is open to professional photographers only. To take part, participants must send in a series of photographs taken in 2017/2018 or long-term projects containing at least one photo from 2017/2018. Only one entry per photographer is accepted.

The “Leica Oskar Barnack Award Newcomer” competition is open to any (prospective) professional photographer aged 25 or under at the time of entering. To take part, participants must send in a series of photographs taken in 2017/2018 or long-term projects containing at least one photo from 2017/2018. Only one entry per photographer is accepted.

The online application 2018 takes place during the period from 1 March until 5 April 2018 (deadline)

From 1914, Oskar Barnack (1879–1936), the inventor of the Leica, used the prototype camera he developed, today known as the Ur-Leica, for photography. The award named after this photographic pioneer was first awarded in 1979, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Oskar Barnack’s birth.
