Indonesia | 2024 artist in residence for French designers

CushCush Gallery (CCG) in Bali, Indonesia is calling for applications from French designers for their funded Artist Designer in Residence programme (ADIR), from 28 April to 3 June 2024.

Presented in collaboration with the French Embassy in Indonesia and the French Institute in Jakarta, CushCush Gallery’s ADIR program 2024 invites a French designer to come to Bali for a 5-week immersive residency programme to get to know its rich arts, crafts, traditions and culture through their practitioners, to embrace the openness and local wisdom inherent in everyday living in Bali, delving deeper into personal concerns that are of interest to the designers, and respond with sensitivity with their interpretations.

As part of the ADIR programme, the designer is expected to do presentations and workshops at the end of the programme, sharing his/her Balinese journey with the local community, and develop a collection of objects as a homage and offering to elevate everyday living on the island of Bali.

The designer will then embark on a one-week roadshow that will take him/her to the cities of Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Surabaya to further share his/her experience with local design communities and design students.

Following his/her return to France, the designer will continue to work remotely with CushCush Gallery until the completion of the collection of objects. The final collection is expected to be showcased at Paris Design Week the following year or other relevant design fairs, professional salons or display opportunities.
