The Flemish Literature Fund (FLF) is paying its second visit to the Beijing International Book Fair, the most important Chinese book fair. And, following its 2011 success with the Netherlands as guest country, the Dutch Foundation for Literature plans a Beijing edition of the literary programme CaféAmsterdam.

Various Dutch-language and Chinese authors and moderators will be taking part in the literary programme, which will be held from 29 to 31 August at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art.

Between August 29th and September 2nd three FLF employees will be promoting Flemish literature to the Chinese publishing world. Following the first attendance in 2011, several Flemish novels have been translated into Chinese and will be on the market in 2012.

The Fund's brochure for Beijing presents a sampling of Flemish literary talent in contemporary fiction and non-fiction. It also draws attention to classic masterpieces, poetry, essays, and books for children and young adults. Our rich tradition of illustration, which reaches back to the skills of Flemish Primitives such as Jan Van Eyck, Hans Memling and Rogier Van Der Weyden, rounds off the brochure.

The organisers hope that Flemish literature will help to open a window on contemporary Europe with its flourishing diversity of cultures. We feel truly welcome in China and this brochure represents an invitation to economic exchange and dialogue.
