Asia-Europe Cultural Festival: 2024 Edition | Curtain Raiser

ASEF Culture and Temenggong Artists-In-Residence are proud to present the preview of the music performance BRIDGE on 21 June in Singapore. The event which is the official curtain raiser of Asia-Europe Cultural Festival 2024 will showcase the collaboration between Tempo Reale (Italy) and Siong Leng Musical Association (Singapore).

A performance that is a dialogue, an emotional journey, a moving cross-cultural collaboration bridging the endangered intangible heritage of Nanyin (inscribed in the UNESCO list in 2009) with contemporary and experimental elements. This artistic collaboration was brought together through the Festival's art residency programme which directly supports artists by providing opportunities for knowledge exchange and co-creation of artistic performances with other artists across Asia and Europe.

The full BRIDGE performance will be staged in Italy in September 2024 in occasion of the festival events in partnership with Oriente Occidente

THE ARTISTS

Siong Leng Musical Association was established in 1941 under the leadership of late chairman Mr Teng Mah Seng. With his guidance, Siong Leng has become an arts company that preserves and promotes Nanyin. By writing new lyrics and music that were livelier and more relatable, Nanyin has been reformed, revitalised and given a new life. Ever since, Siong Leng has been participating in musical competitions and international symposia on Nanyin. It has also organised various events including concerts and festivals that promote and develop the ancient artform.

Tempo Reale Centre for Music Production, Research and Education was founded by Luciano Berio in Florence in 1987 and is now one of the main European reference points for research, production and educational activities in the field of new musical technologies and electronic music. It interprets with a polyhedral approach the idea of research in the multiform field of electronic music and sound arts, in synergy between scientific competence, creativity and executive-didactic rigour.
