The Cinema and Audio-Visual Productions Section acts as the Secretariat of the Cinema Advisory Committee (CAC), which examines proposals submitted by film directors and producers and are funded by the government on CAC’s recommendation. It also has responsibility for the Film Classification Board.

The Section acts as the Secretariat of the Advisory Committee on Film Archives. It represents Cyprus at board meetings of European audiovisual bodies. It is also responsible for the implementation of the agreement on Cyprus’ participation in the Media Programme of the European Union. The Section in addition is responsible for the harmonization of Cyprus’ legislation with the EU acquis communautaire in the audio-visual field.

The Section is also responsible for the production of short documentary films promoting Cyprus, as well as for the reproduction of copies and the translation of films in various languages. It also has the responsibility of the Cyprus Film Archives. In collaboration with the New Technology Development Section it works for the digitalization of the PIO productions and the supervision of Internet TV.
