The Ministry of Culture is responsible for the field of film production, distribution and screening which is regulated by Law 1597/1986. The Directorate of Cinema and Audiovisual Media in the ministry supervises the Greek Film Centre and the Hellenic National Audiovisual Archive.  It also oversees the Network of Municipal Cinema Theatres and the Cinema Network under the Domain of Culture initiative. Funding support for film productions is provided by the Greek Film Centre.
