Instituto Do Cinema - Audiovisual E Multimédia (Icam)

The ICAM - Institute of the Cinema Audiovisual and Multimedia, is a public entity tutored by the Ministry of Culture. ICAM´s aims are to strengthen cultural identity and diversity in the areas of Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia, by supporting innovation and art creation, reinforcing the content creation industries and promoting the Portuguese culture and the Portuguese language.

ICAM's attributions are:















































a) To support the Minister of Culture in the definition of policies for the Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia sectors;
b) To coordinate the execution of policies drawn for the Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia sectors  in the areas tutored by the Ministry of Culture;
c) To regulate cinema, audiovisual and multimedia activities in the areas tutored by the Ministry of Culture;
d) To support cinema, audiovisual and multimedia production and promotion as forms of art, aiming at the modernization and the internationalisation of such industries;
e) To establish with other public or private organizations adequate measures for sector cooperation;
f) To promote articulation between the cinema, audiovisual and multimedia sectors as to encourage their cultural and economic connections;
g) To expand the market for cinematographic, audiovisual and multimedia works, both national and European, encouraging the creation of new audiences and reinforcing the conditions for growth and independence of such industries;
h) To promote and divulgate Cinema, Audiovisual and Multimedia on a national and international scale;
i) To grant financial support and other incentives, within the scope of ICAM's attributions;
j) To represent Portugal in communitarian and international organisations, within the scope of ICAM's attributions;
k) To promote cooperation with other countries, in particular Portuguese speaking countries, within the scope of ICAM's attributions.

ICAM incentivates Film Co-Productions through the  Selective Financial Support System.

Scope of application
Co-productions made within the scope of bilateral Agreements or International Conventions signed by the Portuguese Government, as well as co-productions that meet the requirements of art. 13 of D.L. 350/93 of October 7, with the derogation of paragraph b) of no. 2, and having more than 50% of the project's total capital investment guaranteed by a foreign producer.
