"Bratislava in Movement" Association

Bratislava in Movement Association is a non-governmental organization working in the field of professional development of contemporary dance in Slovakia. The main activity of BMA is the international festival of contemporary dance called "Bratislava in Movement". This festival has been recognized in the greater European community and has developed into an event with several different activities.

"Bratislava in Movement" also commissions and produces dance and multimedia projects, as well as organizes practical workshops and theoretical conferences. An important aspect of its effort is to educate the general public, enlist the support and participation of existing cultural institutions and engage the media.

Besides the festival, the association is active in the field of education by organizing workshops with foreign teachers for professional dancers. It has developed the basis of an information center and it has started an active policy towards development of dance criticism in Slovakia.

Collaborating Institutions and Organizations of BMA are: British Council, Goethe Institute, The Hungarian Culture Institute, French Institute, Austrian Embassy – The Cultural Forum, Public Affairs Office – Embassy of USA, Italian Culture Institute, Czech Center, The Dutch Embassy in Bratislava, The Pro Helvetia Foundation, Center for Contemporary Arts, Town District Bratislava – Old Town, Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Bratislava, The Arena Theatre, The Stoka Theatre, The theatre Institute in Bratislava, The House of Culture Ružinov, Contemporary Dance Association.

The foreign partners of BMA are: Dance Theatre Workshop, Danspace Project (New York), Dietheatre, Tanzquartier (Vienna), MAPA (Amsterdam), Trafo, L1 (Budapest), Mamapapa, Tanec Praha, Konfrontace (Prague), Toaca (Bucharest), Red House (Sofia), and others.

BMA is member of IETM.
