The Programme of the Yamagata International Documentary Festival will include an International Competition section and a New Asian Currents section introducing up-and-coming Asian documentary filmmakers.

International Competition

Approximately 15 feature length films are chosen and screened from new works submitted from around the world. Prizes are awarded by a panel of jurors at the conclusion of the festival.

New Asian Currents
This program introduces and supports works by rising documentary makers who either originate or reside in Asia. There is no restrictions on format or film length. Works are chosen and screened from submitted works. Prizes are awarded by a panel of jurors at the conclusion of the festival.

The participation in the festival is free of charge and the prizes, chosen by a panel of jurors and awarded to films screened in the International Competition and New Asian Currents are:

The Robert and Frances Flaherty Prize (The Grand Prize) ¥2,000,000
The Mayor’s Prize ¥1,000,000
Two Awards of Excellence ¥300,000 each
Special Prize ¥300,000
New Asian Currents
Ogawa Shinsuke Prize ¥500,000
Two Awards of Excellence ¥300,000 each
