None
The UCHIMURA Prize was inaugurated in 1992 on the initiative of the Japanese Centre of the International Theatre Institute in honour of its former president Naoya UCHIMURA, a significant Japanese playwright who devoted his life to promoting mutual knowledge and understanding of theatre throughout the world. The UCHIMURA Prize was created in collaboration with the UCHIMURA family, who have generously endowed it since its inception.

This annual award aims to stimulate and encourage initiatives taken by groups or individual artists, outside Japan, leading to an action or project bearing a relation to Japanese theatre.

The Uchimura Prize 2010 is for work shown, produced or completed in 2009 or 2010.

  • The project submitted must bear a relation to Japanese theatre (Dramatic work, production, performance of a play, adaptation, training course, scholarly work, etc.)

  • The candidate may be an individual, company or educational institution.

  • The UCHIMURA prize, a monetary award of 3000 Euros (three thousand Euros), is awarded to the winner by the Executive Council of the International Theatre Institute.
