The Gallerist Programme | call for applications

The participants receive a package of workshops and seminars and the programme cumulates ultimately in the final project, a booth presentation at Liste Young Art Fair. The Fair Gallery is a collaboration between four international galleries: gb agency, Paris; Hollybush Gardens, London, Jan Mot, Brussels and Raster, Warsaw.
The annual Gallerist Programme brings together six to eight participants. De Appel arts centre believes in the value and significance created by bringing together participants not only from diverse backgrounds, but also with different frames of reference in their business approach or art (historical) knowledge.
The programme is structured around five sessions (each approx. 8 days) spread over nine months and takes place at various locations worldwide. The sessions will take place once every two months. The curriculum is composed in order to accommodate also young gallery owners, who have only just started running their business, and allow them to build upon what they might have already learned and or experienced. On the other hand, the programme is also open to art professionals who are not in the commercial sector of this industry yet, but want to gain insight and focus before commencing their own business.
“Coming from a Chinese art context, it is easy to think that White Cube and Gagosian equal the contemporary global art scene. Through the Gallerist Programme, I understand there to be many ‘art worlds’ that are not defined in one system and actually feel encouraged to find my own partners and establish exchanges. The Gallerist Programme also helped me rethink the business model of my own gallery and I have learned a lot of basic skills as a consequence of being exposed to so many different practices.” –Fang Fang (Star Gallery Beijing), participant, GP 2012–13
De Appel arts centre and The Fair Gallery now recruit participants for the third edition of the Gallerist Programme running from September 2014 to June 2015.
