The first international Alps Art Academy is  open for applications from artists, theorists and curators interested in working with nature, society and land art. It will take place in Tenna, Switzerland, with workshops, lectures and artworks produced in the landscape of the Safiental valley.

In summer 2016 (June 26 – July 2), the first international ALPS ART ACADEMY on the topic of LAND ART will take place in Safiental (canton Graubünden, Switzerland). Four different workshops will offer the students and lecturers an opportunity to create art in situ in dialogue with nature and landscape.

Additionally, one workshop will be devoted to the history, theory and mediation of Land Art.
Critical analysis, challenging, and the upholding of the historical term Land Art are central to all workshops, as well as the transdisciplinary practice thereof. The resulting art works of art and texts will provide suggestions for the Next Land Art that, apart from nature and landscape, will incorporate other media and engage with society.

Alps Art Academy will be concluded with an open air exhibit Art Safiental which will feature all artworks created during the workshops and made them publicly available both to the local community and visitors. The majority of the projects will be open to the public until fall 2016.

Applications are open to artists interested in working with nature and society as well as theorists and curators drawn to research and education aspects linked with Land Art. Workshops will be held in German and English (language skills required in either) . Applications should be submitted via the downloadable application form.

The deadline for applications is April 20, 2016. 

The selection committee will evaluate all applications by the end of April. Accepted students will be informed at the beginning of May.



The location of the Alps Art Academy is 1906 built Alpenblick in Tenna (GR), which will also accommodate all lecturers and students. Certain events may take place on different locations of the Safiental valley. Works will be created in the entire Safiental valley (from Valendas, Versam up to Safien Platz untilThalkich and Turahus).

Costs: CHF 800 / US 800 / EUR 730 (includes one week courses, accommodation and board). – Travel expenses are not included. Four grants will be awarded to students with financial need.
