Artist residencies lead up to Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale

Preparations for the 3rd Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale (JCCB) are underway as ceramics artists from Singapore, Slovenia, Wales, the Netherlands and Thailand take up summer residencies in ceramics studios in Java and Bali as part of the programme.

The third Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale (JCCB#3) takes place 23 September - 13 October at Galeri Nasional in Jakarta, Indonesia, on the theme: “Coefficient of Expansion”. The term is intended as a metaphor describing the diverse and extensive boundaries of ceramic art.

Artist Residency Program in Pejaten, Bali: Steven Low Thia Kwang (Singapore) will be working at Tanteri Ceramic Studio from June 2 to June 20, 2014. Tanteri Ceramic Studio is built on a family business that capitalizes on global connections, and was established in 1988.

Artist Residency Program in Jenggala: Kirstie van Noort (Netherlands) will be working within the tropical and richly historic environment of Bali, where Jenggala Keramik has emerged from a small experimental cottage industry in 1976 to a uniquely refined company of the twenty- first century. A strong forward-thinking sensibility brought together three creative minds of different backgrounds: the late Brent Hesselyn - an artist and potter from New Zealand, the late Wija Waworuntu - a local hotel magnet who contributed in developing the business, and Ade Waworuntu...

Artist Residency Program in FSRD-ITB: Sarah Younan (Wales) will be working at the Ceramic Studio of FSRD-ITB from August 10 to September 10, 2014. The Ceramic Studio is a workspace that belongs to the Faculty of Art and Design - Bandung Institute of Technology (FSRD-ITB), which is located in the heart of Bandung, the capital city of West Java.

Artist Residency Program in Bayat: Kristina Rutar (Slovenia) and Amornthep Mahamart (Thailand) will be working at Pagerjurang Ceramic Studio from August 10 to September 10, 2014. Pagerjurang (PaJu) Ceramic Studio is located one-hour drive from the city of Yogyakarta. The studio is close to Pagerjurang Village, a local pottery center.
