UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage - new inscriptions approved

The sixteenth session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has approved new inscriptions for the Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

The annual gathering brought together online hundreds of participants – representatives of States Parties, non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions and other stakeholders – from across the globe.

Among the new inscriptions for 2021 in Asia and Europe:

• Art of Xòe dance of the Tai people in Viet Nam

• Community festivities in Campo Maior (Portugal)

• Corso culture, flower and fruit parades in the Netherlands

• Durga Puja in Kolkata

• Inuit drum dancing and singing (Denmark)

• L-Għana, a Maltese folksong tradition

• Visoko multipart singing from Dolen and Satovcha, South-western Bulgaria

The School of Living Traditions, in the Philippines has been selected for the Register of Good Safeguarding Practices. The School of Living Traditions (SLT) programme involves informal, community-managed learning centres where practitioners can transmit their communities’ knowledge, intangible cultural heritage, skills and values to younger generations. It is supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)
