Museums Facing Extinction is a series of events designed by EIT Climate-KIC and We Are Museums, with the mission of
turning museums and their local communities into climate leaders, and fostering systemic changes towards a climate-resilient future.
This project aims to produce
a series of small-scale workshops happening across Europe, each time bringing together 15 museum decision-makers, working together to create simple actions and take-outs, immediately implementable in any museum – small or large and encouraging their communities to move towards a climate-friendly future.
In a context of high climate emergency,
the potential of museums as agents of social and environmental change is vast. From their physicality to their voice as a large community of 80 000 museums internationally, it is time for museums to embrace this new role and embody the behaviour and values that will impact our future.
The first pilot event will take place on 21-24 November
in Berlin at the recently-opened future-focused museum Futurium. It will welcome around 20 museum experts with great expertise around climate actions and community engagement, as well as a variety of experts like architects, biologists, journalists.
