French auteur retrospective at YIDFF | Japan
Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival (YIDFF) 2013 will be held in Yamagata, Japan from the
10th to 17th October, 2013.
Started in 1989 as the city's 100th anniversary celebration project, YIDFF is one of the longest running documentary festival in the world. As the first film festival in Asia specializing in documentaries, its focus is placed on outstanding films from all over the world and conveying the attractions of documentary films to the public.
The program includes an "International Competition" where feature-length works are sought from around the world and 15 films carefully selected from a vast number of entries are introduced. Also included is "New Asian Currents", implemented to find and support rising Asian filmmakers. This year, the festival also includes an unprecedented special retrospective of 45 titles produced by the French auteur Chris Marker, who passed away last year.
