Countries: Italy, Singapore

With the mission to honour traditional art and the diversity of cultures, BRIDGE is a music collaboration of Siong Leng Musical Association (Singapore) and Tempo Reale (Italy) that brings together Nanyin (traditional Chinese folk music) with electronics and sound arts. This collaboration was the result of the ASEF-Temenggong Artists-In-Residence, a hybrid residency programme developed under the framework of the Asia-Europe Cultural Festival 2024. Following a period of 6 months of exchanges, in the stunning spaces of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto (Mart), 8 musicians from very different backgrounds will present the result of their residency with this unique music concert.

The slow, simple and elegant melodies of the “music from the South” of China, performed on distinctive instruments such as a bamboo flute and a crooked-neck lute, merge with the digital electroacoustic of contemporary Euro-American sound art. A performance that is a dialogue, an emotional journey, a moving cross-cultural collaboration bridging the endangered intangible heritage of Nanyin (inscribed in the UNESCO list in 2009) with contemporary and experimental elements.

A Q&A session with the artists will be held after the performance.
