ASEAN Museum Forum 2018 | Thailand
ThemeThe theme for the forum is “Museum Media: Connecting Museums, Converging People”. ASEAN Museum Forum 2018 aims to provide an opportunity for museum practitioners to reflect, discuss, and understand issues, methods, and challenges on the use of media, as well as to learn and share experiences.
Many museums are trying to push for becoming a space of learning in the museum, and also a cultural space that accommodates people of all backgrounds. The purpose of this push is to make the museum more able to communicate with different people and, in turn, ensure that more people can access the museum.
Media is an important aspect of a museum’s outreach and interaction with visitors. Various formats of media allow museums to create experiences, to enhance learning for visitors, and to allow visitors to participate and interact with exhibitions in more meaningful ways. In recent years, museums have expanded the ways the present material, far beyond traditional object curating, many forms of media, new and old, to be an important part of the modern museum experience. We would like to invite submissions from colleagues working in museums or cultural organisations to share media learning experiences they have developed, discuss the process of developing or adopting tools, share insights and lessons learned, and discuss the role of media in their learning strategies. In today’s modern media landscape, how can museums best use traditional, new, and emerging media technologies to reach, educate, and interact with visitors? The Museum Forum 2018 aims to answer this question.
