The call for the 2014 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation has been extended to 30 April 2014. The call is announced in 'Voices UNESCO in Asia and the Pacific' - a  Special Edition of the free monthly online journal from UNESCO's Bangkok Office Culture Unit.

Entries are now being accepted for the 2014 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. The Awards recognize the successful efforts of private sector and public-private initiatives in conserving or restoring structures, places and properties of heritage value in the region. The Awards emphasize the importance of the conservation process, including the technical achievements and quality of the restoration, as well as the social impact, including community involvement in the project.

The NEW DEADLINE for receipt of materials is 30 April 2014.

Since the Awards were established in 2000, UNESCO has received 556 entries from 24 countries. A total of 160 projects have received Awards for high achievement in conservation, while 8 have received the Jury Commendation for Innovation.

Among the other cultural heritage information resources available from the UNESCO Bangkok Culture office are:

  • The Homeowner’s Preservation Manual is a series of practical guides to restoring historic houses and other heritage buildings aimed at homeowners, lessees, tenants, contractors and architects. The Homeowner’s Manual provides a thorough understanding of the elements, spaces and materials to enable the homeowner to identify priorities for repair work. Specific guides are published for heritage districts in cities of Viet Nam, Philippines and Indonesia
