Multidisciplinary and true to its mission, the Serralves Foundation is considered to be one of Portugal’s most successful and consolidated cultural projects, with unique international projection and recognition. Serralves aims to be recognized nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence in the field of contemporary art and, in general, in terms of reflection about key contemporary social issues, thus promoting the diversity of the cultural offer, through an innovative intervention that will steadily attract diverse audiences and induce greater community support.
The Serralves Foundation has developed its activity around 5 strategic action lines:
With particular relevance for the fine arts, through constitution of a leading international contemporary art collection and an ambitious programme of exhibitions, featuring works of leading Portuguese and foreign artists and initiatives involving young artists. In this framework, the Foundation also schedules music, theatre and performing arts series that complement and enhance the exhibition programme.
Through innovative educational programmes, suitable for all people, of all ages and high visibility initiatives such as "Serralves em Festa", "Autumn Party" and the "Environment Day". Also in the field of Community involvement, the Serralves Foundation has established a network of partnerships with local authorities throughout the country in order to support the revelation of new talent, disseminate the Serralves Collection and enhance the programming of existing facilities and thus help build new audiences.
Valuing the Park as a space for public fruition and as a basis for approaching the main environmental problems facing the world today, in the broader context of relations between art and the landscape.
Through study and debate, in conferences and colloquia, of the main questions of our time, involving the participation of great national and foreign thinkers, in the fields of the arts and social, political and experimental sciences.
As an expression of the growing relationship between culture and the economy, with tremendous potential for job and wealth creation in areas as diverse as architecture, design, information technologies, advertising, among others, the Serralves Foundation has assumed a pioneering role, by creating INSerralves, Portugal’s first creative industries incubator, and has actively contributed to the constitution of Portugal’s first creative industries cluster, in the North region, via the ADDICT association.
