Arts Initiative Tokyo (AIT)

Arts Initiative Tokyo (AIT) is a non-profit organisation started by six arts coordinators and curators based in Tokyo. AIT operates from an office/ classroom/ meeting space in the Daikanyama area of Tokyo, near Shibuya. AIT receives no structural funding from public institutions in Japan.

AIT survives through two primary initiatives which are MAD and working with various institutions and corporations:
MAD stands for Making Art Different and is an independent art school offering five courses to over 150 people annually.

AIT also runs Tokyo¹s first systematic artist in residence program in partnership with various overseas arts organizations and in addition, AIT curates experimental exhibitions and events, organizes ongoing artists and curators talks, and works with different organizations including corporate and public foundations (e.g. AIT were selected by The Japan Foundation as the commissioners of the Japanese participation of the 12th Bangladesh Biennale in 2006).
