Berlin | transmediale 2026 Residency for Korean and Swiss artists

Transmediale is calling for applications for its 2026 residency programme. Amid escalating political and ecological urgencies and deepening societal divides, this year’s open call for residents invites proposals that explore the relational modes of digital art practices that critically engage with the social dimensions and (mis)uses of technology.
Digital Art Residency x Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia
The one-month Digital Art Residency in cooperation with the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia will be awarded to one individual or collective working in the field of digital art practices, at the intersection of media arts, performance, sound, and moving image. Applicants must have Swiss nationality or permanent residence in Switzerland, and be firmly established in the Swiss cultural scene.
The selected resident will be awarded an artist fee of 2,000 EUR per month plus per diem for the month in Berlin, as well as travel and accommodation for the festival and residency. The Digital Art Residency includes an additional production grant of 15,000 CHF awarded to the selected project (the work needs to be completed by December 2026 at the latest).
transmediale x ARKO Residency
transmediale presents the second edition of the residency programme in collaboration with the Arts Council Korea. The residency will be awarded to one person of Korean nationality, based in Korea or elsewhere, working in the fields of digital art and moving image practices, design, sound, and media theory. Applications are open for artists, researchers, practitioners, designers, and sound artists. The call is open to all formats with a focus on projects that engage with the thematic framework of the open call and combine a strong artistic vision with a research- and/or practice-based approach.
The two-month residency will be awarded with an artist fee of 1,500 EUR per month, additional support for production plus travel and accommodation support for the festival and residency.
Timelines
The hybrid residency takes place remotely and on-site in Berlin at transmediale studio between May and July 2026.
