The George Town Literary Festival GTLF2011 - “
History & Heritage: Where are our Stories?” will be held over two days in Penang, Malaysia on the
26th & 27th of November 2011.
The festival will open with a book launch by National Laureate, Muhammad Haji Salleh of a book of
pantuns that he has edited
, "Bila Terkenang Zaman Dahulu: Pantun Pulau Pinang”, collected from the oral and written archives of Penang - written by Penangites - Chinese, Malays and Peranakans.
Also part of the programme are public readings and discussions by the participating writers, a performance by singer/songwriter
Az Samad, high-tea with Farish Ahmad-Noor at the E&O Hotel and a dinner - also at the E&O - with 2007 Man Booker Prize Nominee, Tan Twan Eng.
The principal venue of the GTLF2011 will be the brand new art-space on 183B Victoria Street in George Town – China House – consisting of three double-storey restored shop-houses with designated spaces for art and performance, a cafe and restaurant.
The George Town Literary Festival 2011 is curated by Malaysian writer & actress, Bernice Chauly. Participating writers include
Muhammed Haji Salleh, Farish Ahmad-Noor, Iskandar Al-Bakri, Shih-Li Kow and
Tan Twan Eng.
