International Museum Academy: UK 2016

International Museum Academy UK 2016 The British Council has recently announced the International Museum Academy: UK 2016, a major programme of museum short courses that will run consecutively in galleries and museums across the United Kingdom in August 2016. The vision of the International Museum Academy: UK 2016 is to provide emerging museum and gallery leaders from around the world with the knowledge and skills necessary to increase the growth and sustainability of galleries and museums in their countries. The programme includes four courses, as follows:
  • "Commercial Enterprise", Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 1-5 August
  • "Audience Engagement", National Museums Liverpool, 8-12 August
  • "Developing Digital Content", Culture24 and Royal Pavilion and Museums, Brighton, 15-19 August
  • "Creating Contemporary Art Exhibitions", Whitechapel Gallery, London, 22-26 August
Registration for each of these courses can be done separately. Participants will gain exclusive access to world class collections, network with museum and gallery directors and develop strategic plans for their institutions. Courses will offer an innovative mix of seminars with leading UK museum professionals, creative workshops, hands-on sessions and ‘behind the scenes’ tours. The International Museum Academy: UK 2016 will provide a collaborative environment for sharing best practice and exploring common challenges, as well as the opportunity to participate in a global network of alumni. Ongoing support will be given through one-to-one mentorship. The application period will open in late January 2016. Participants are expected to have a good knowledge of English and at least three years' experience working in museums and galleries.
