South Island Light Orchestra (SILO)

South Island Light Orchestra (SILO) is a collective of creatives based in Tāhuna (Queenstown), who use light, sound, and sculpture, combined with interactivity and strong narratives, to deliver immersive experiences and installations. They are the creators of the award-winning LUMA Southern Light Project in Tāhuna (Queenstown), which pioneered a zero-waste approach to large-scale events in the South Island and helped establish a template for sustainable events that has informed local council funding guidelines.

When building artworks and choosing materials, they consider the sustainability of those materials, aiming to find a balance between recycling and reusing products. Over the past ten years, they have refined their approach to sustainable creative practices, building artworks from components that can be reused to create new light works.
