Slovak Film Institute

The Slovak Film Institute (SFI) is the only state institution in Slovakia in the area of cinematography dealing with film and cinematography in a comprehensive manner. It collates, conserves, protects films and other audiovisual works and documentation materials and makes them available to the public.

The SFI is the administrator of the film archive which is a special significance archive that comprises all films, frequently unique, made in Slovakia. These collections form a significant component of the national cultural heritage and they constitute a national property protected by the state and entrusted to the SFI for archiving and administration. The Film Institute executes the rights of the producer to Slovak films made by organisations which are fully and exclusively managed by the state, and it enhances the value of these rights by carrying out business activities.

The National Cinematographic Centre of the SFI is responsible for collating and providing complex information and services related to Slovak cinematography, presenting Slovak films both in Slovakia and abroad, supporting foreign film events in Slovakia and for the publication of general and professional filmological publications within the SFI‘s publishing activities.
