Mana Moana

Based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington), Mana Moana brings together leading interdisciplinary Māori and Pacific artists to collaborate on multimedia and moving-image artworks, exploring relationships with the ocean, climate change, and technology through Indigenous perspectives, knowledge, and narratives. 

Through the use of technology and art, Mana Moana seeks to draw attention to, critique, and request action on environmental issues through a future Indigenous frame. Its work centres on creating a platform for upholding a healthy and respectful relationship with the moana in all its forms: oceans, lakes, rain, rivers. By providing a Māori frame from which to enable and encompass Indigenous moana perspectives, it creates a positive platform for critical discussion and celebrates whakapapa (genealogy) relationships with the environment.

Mana Moana encompasses multiple projects, including Mana Moana – Pacific Voices, a collection of emotive and artistic video works created to amplify and support the Pacific in driving global action to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.
