Greenlit

 

Greenlit is a non-profit organisation overseen by a board of filmmakers from the screen sector of Aotearoa New Zealand, including producers, commissioners, and sustainability officers. They support the film, documentary, and television industry with environmentally sustainable production practices. Their goal is to develop tools and strategy to support the industry with meeting environmental aims, including the increasing regulatory requirements of taking sustainable action.

Greenlit aims to support sustainable production by providing tools and resources that enable the implementation of sustainable practices. They focus on embedding Te Ao Māori (a Māori world-view) perspectives into these processes and developing a bicultural approach to sustainability that is unique to the country's context.

In particular, their model involves employing and supporting contractors to work in sustainability departments on productions to oversee sustainability. Greenlit has also developed a carbon calculator that is unique to Aotearoa, using local emission factors to collect data, create industry wide reports and ensure it makes accurate measurements of carbon emissions.
