ComPeung, Village of Creativity

Situated in Doi Saket, Chiang Mai with diverse local ethic communities and northern culture, ComPeung is the first non-government artist-in-residence programme in Thailand.

Founded in 2005 by art professionals, ComPeung's residency programme is designed for local and international artists and creative individuals to live and work together with ComPeung team and the local communities through the process of creating artworks, developing conceptual projects as well as participating in workshops and other ComPeung's activities.

ComPeung aims to be an open space for dialogues, exchange of ideas, experiments and explorations of the role of art, artists and interdependence between art and society. It aspires to develop and expand network of artists and art organizations on local, regional and international levels.

Through the process of respectfully working and living together in basic sustainable conditions, ComPeung hopes to encourage both visiting residents and locals to acutely reflect upon and learn from diverse facets of everyday life in this context. And perhaps as a consequence to gain more open and inclusive perspectives about seemingly contrasting positions in contemporary culture.

ComPeung provides artists with a rural, peaceful retreat for work and play in an environment closely connected to nature through sustainable frameworks such as adobe dwellings. ComPeung holds the potential for art inspired by local culture through its collaboration with singular local resources.
