Belart International

Belart International (originally called Belgian Art Research Institute), was founded by its director Olivier Bertrand in 1999. Ever since then the institution was committed to the scientific research of 19th and 20th century art in Belgium. With their findings, followed by publications and exhibitions, Belart International has contributed to the rising international interest in Belgian artists like Theo van Rysselberghe and Rik Wouters.

Their international team of independent experts is specialised in consultation of primary and secondary sources, evaluation of private and public, national and international archives holdings. In the course of the years the Institute has gathered original documents and established one of the largest private archives on leading European artists and Ivan Pokhitonov. Enriched by donations and purchases from private collections theirr archives represents therefore a unique source of unpublished documents and photographs.
