Greece | Oxbelly Screenwriters Programme 2026

The Oxbelly Retreat has opened an open call for its 2026 Oxbelly Screenwriters Programme, from 1 to 9 July 2026 in Costa Navarino in Messinia, Greece.

This call is aimed at writer-directors working on their second fiction feature film. It seeks to support those looking to strengthen their craft and push the boundaries of their unique cinematic voice.

Selected fellows will workshop their scripts through individual meetings with experienced writer-director advisors and participate in sessions focusing on aspects of the creative process. The programme also promotes a multidisciplinary approach: participants join sessions with creatives from other fields (theatre, visual arts, literature) to broaden their narrative perspective and explore storytelling across forms.

Eligibility

The programme is open to Greek and international applicants aged 18 or older. Candidates must be writer-directors who have written and directed a debut fiction feature film — the first film must be picture-locked at the time of application (though it need not be released) — and are currently developing their second fiction feature. Co-writing/co-directing duos are accepted and applicants may submit only one project.

Support

For selected fellows, all expenses are covered: flights (or travel), accommodation and meals. For international applicants requiring visas, Oxbelly will provide necessary documentation (e.g. invitation and accommodation proof) but visa processing remains the applicant’s responsibility.
