George Town Festival 2024 Artist-in-Residence Programme

George Town Festival (GTF) 2024 is calling for applications from artists from any creative discipline to participate in a unique one- to three-month residency programme in George Town, Malaysia, between 15 March and 15 June 2024.

The residency offers artists a dynamic and culturally vibrant environment to delve into their artistic practice, make meaningful connections with the local community, and respond to the festival’s overarching theme: “Here and Now”. Artists will have the opportunity to connect with local creatives, interact with the local community, and immerse themselves in the rich heritage and contemporary heart of George Town, creating works inspired by the unique surroundings.

Selected artists will be included in the George Town Festival programme, 19–28 July 2024. First beginning as a series of arts and cultural events that celebrated George Town’s inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008, George Town Festival now takes place every July, sharing the same month with George Town World Heritage Day.

Studio/Workspace
Monthly residency allowance of 1,500 MYR
Artist/Creation fee 5,000 MYR
Production fees ranging from 10,000–20,000 MYR
Weekly transport to the nearby supermarket, if required
Arrival and departure transfer between Penang International Airport and the residency area
