The ASEAN Science Film Festival invites all film makers, broadcasters and producers to submit their work for considerations in the 2013 edition, by April 5, 2013. The theme for this year is Energy and Sustainability, but the festival welcomes entries of scientific films on all subjects and for all ages. The Science Film Festival, initiated by the Goethe-Institut in 2005, presents films, which communicate technological and scientific issues accessibly and entertainingly to a broad audience. Through this approach, the festival encourages a culture of science films that effectively combines education and entertainment, demonstrating that science communication and learning can be fun.

In addition, the festival offers a platform for intercultural exchange through which different approaches to the world of knowledge converge. Since the films are intended to reach in particular pupils and students, all films are synchronized into the local languages to provide greater accessibility.

The ASEAN Science Film Festival continued its extraordinary growth in 2012, reaching 375 000 visitors in Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. It is one of the most visited scientific film festivals in the world and a significant cultural and educational initiative in Southeast Asia.
