Workshop: "World Heritage Nominations: Comparative Analysis"

Participants in the programme will receive targeted training covering key topics of the nomination and evaluation processes, including:

• Principles and Objectives of the World Heritage Convention;
• Operational Guidelines;
• The Concept of Outstanding Universal Value;
• Comparative Analysis;
• Justification for Inscription;
• Integrity and Authenticity;
• Protection and Management Requirements;
• Nomination and Evaluation Processes;
• Nomination Format; and
• Tips on Writing and Preparing the Nomination Dossier.

The programme of the workshop comprises a range of methodologies, including interactive lectures by experts from several organisations (UNESCO, ICCROM, ICOMOS, IUCN), study tours and a practical exercise. The target audience is 30 professionals working in the World Heritage sphere. During the selection process, preference will be given to those who indicate that they are currently involved in the preparation of tentative lists and nominations. With regard to nominations, preference will be given to nominations that are demonstrable gaps on the World Heritage List. Gender balance and equality will also be taken into consideration during the selection process as well as the priorities set by the World Heritage Committee in terms of underrepresented regions (Africa, Caribbean and Small Island Developing States). Registration for the workshop is open until 15 September. Applicants are expected to submit a letter of motivation and a case study. No scholarships are available.
