New Resource: Collection Storage Tips & Tricks

collection-storage-tips-tricks Collection Storage Tips & Tricks is a dynamic resource created by the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) and the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI) following an international call for images launched in December 2015. The resource showcases the creative and cost-effective ideas that collections professionals from around the world have developed to store various types of cultural objects and collections. Collection Storage Tips & Tricks has been developed in the context of ICCROM's RE-ORG programme, which provides a step-by-step methodology to help small institutions reorganise their storage areas for improved access and conservation. The programme resulted from a joint initiative of UNESCO and ICCROM aimed at contributing to museum capacity in ensuring conservation and access to their collections, with particular emphasis on areas such as documentation systems and museum storage. The new resource is presented as a Tumblr web page, seen as an evolving, dynamic database, each including a photograph and a short description. The promoters of the initiative invite other museums and collections professionals to share their own tips and tricks on collections storage. Submissions should include the following information items:
  • the type of object being stored;
  • the materials used or re-used to create the storage solution;
  • an explanation of why this system is better than before.
A set of additional resources on collection storage techniques has also been included in the new website. "Collection Storage Tips & Tricks" is available at Additional information for museums and collections professionals interested in submitting their own solutions can be found at For additional information about the RE-ORG programme, please visit
