The
Romanian Journal of Museums, a periodical published by Romania's
National Institute for Cultural Research and Training (INCFC), is the most important publication dedicated to specialists working in Romanian museums.
Its
latest issue has recently been published in Romanian and English. Among the issues addressed are the celebration of the
European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018; the
100th anniversary of the 'Great Union', which involved the union of all Romanian provinces in one state; and issues related to
museum ethics.
Introducing the issue, Editor-in-Chief Virgil Ştefan Niţulescu addresses the need to strengthen awareness of museum ethics in Romania, stressing the fact that, in addition to holding the relevant skills and knowledge, working in a museum "implies the existence of an inner purpose to work for the benefit of the community, beyond statements and annual assessments made by hierarchical superiors". In this respect, the celebration of the European Year of Cultural Heritage and the centennial of Romania's Great Union should be seen as opportunities to
raise awareness about the importance of heritage and museums, as well as about
international initiatives in the field of museum ethics, including the
ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums.
