[Call] Intangible Cultural Heritage and Museums Field School, Thailand

The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Anthropology Center (SAC), Thailand, has announced the "Intangible Cultural Heritage and Museums Field School 2013: Mapping Intangible Culture in Surin Province" to be held on 6-18 August 2013.

The Field School is being co-hosted by SAC and the International Research Center for Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (IRCI) in collaboration with participating communities in Surin Province, Thailand. It will focus on the role of cultural mapping in safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage (ICH).
The Field School is aimed at museum operators and heritage practitioners in the ASEAN region, and will offer both conceptual frameworks and hands-on practical training for safeguarding intangible cultural heritage.
The 2013 Field School will include sessions on the following topics:
  • An overview of the 2003 ICH Convention, including debates and critiques;
  • Participatory cultural mapping;
  • New museology approaches, including ecomuseology, and indigenous curation;
  • Anthropological approaches and tools for researching and safeguarding ICH;
  • Linking safeguarding ICH to core museum activities.
