Busan Biennale 2026
Led by co-artistic directors Evelyn Simons and Amal Khalaf, the Busan Biennale will take place from 29 August to 1 November 2026 under the title ‘Dissident Chorus’, unfolding across Busan Museum of Contemporary Art and Space OneZ, Former Busan Nam High School in Yeongdo, Busan.
The 2026 edition brings together 46 artists and collectives from 22 countries. Citywide programmes highlight sound, performance, collective rhythm, embodied knowledge, and practices of gathering.
A defining feature of the 2026 edition is the strong presence of artists whose practices move across sound, music, performance, choreography, club culture, archival research, moving image, installation, and socially engaged practice. Rather than positioning the biennale as a primarily visual encounter, ‘Dissident Chorus’ invites audiences to enter the exhibition through live performance, shared rhythm, bodily movement, acts of listening, and moments of gathering, expanding the exhibition into a living collective stage.
Alongside the exhibition, Busan Biennale 2026 will present a dynamic programme of performances, sound projects, artist talks and public events that extend the audience experience beyond the exhibition. During the opening week, live performances and sound-based programmes by participating artists will unfold across and beyond the biennale venues. Throughout the exhibition period, a series of artist talks and public programmes will offer deeper insight into the participating artists’ practices.
