The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) will attend the upcoming Fifth ASEM Culture Ministers' Meeting (ASEM CMM) and contribute to the deliberations therein on the sustainable management of heritage cities in Asia and Europe. The meeting will be held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on 18-19 September 2012. Heritage has been a key area of dialogue at this Ministerial forum since 2010. In keeping with its role as a facilitator between ASEM governments and civil society, ASEF will channel recommendations from heritage experts to the Ministerial meeting. The recommendations were prepared during the experts’ meeting on Managing Heritage Cities in Asia and Europe: the Role of Public-Private Partnerships, co-organised by ASEF and Gadjah Madah University, Indonesia, in July 2012. Another contribution from ASEF to the dialogue comes in the form of a compilation of over 30 case studies from the ASEM region on successful public-private partnerships enabling the sustainable management of heritage cities. This publication, Managing Heritage Cities in Asia and Europe, will be launched in Yogyakarta on 18 September. At the ASEM CMM, ASEF will also update ASEM governments on its key cultural co-operation initiatives over the past two years, including the on-going development of its online portal, culture360.org.
