Europalia International

Since 1969, europalia has been organising biennials that explore and open up perspectives on a country, a theme or social and cultural issues to a wide audience.

Its multidisciplinary programme combines heritage and art, and is the result of an ongoing dialogue between different cultural partners. A great deal of attention is paid to artistic creation and residency projects. Each festival runs for an average of 4 months, throughout Belgium and in a number of other European countries.

Europalia arose in the context of the beginning of European integration, out of the conviction that art could bring Europeans closer together. Art as a unifying factor between people and communities remains a driving force today. Europalia is no longer a biennial just for and by Europeans, but a festival created from a multifaceted approach that reflects and aims for an open and inclusive society.
