Starting with 1997, Sibiu Jazz Festival Foundation took over the noble mission of continuing the tradition of the Festival, which was considered a cornerstone of authentic culture during the communist time. Along the years, the Festival launched national jazz, valuable musicians. There are no Romanian jazz musicians that have not been influenced in their evolution, in a way or another, by the Sibiu Jazz Festival. The international participation is part of an opened artistic perception towards various horizons. A list, even incomplete, of the international musicians who performed in the Festival, speaks for itself: Ron Carter, Toots Thielemans, Archie Shepp, Didier Lockwood, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jan Garbarek, Bill Evans, Charles Lloyd, Birelli Lagrene, Chucho Valdes, Arturo Sandoval etc.
In 2005, the Festival is recognized as the most important of its kind in Romania, being the first Romanian member of the most important network of festivals and jazz promoters in Europe: Europe Jazz Network.
