The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts (1997) is charged with overall responsibility for the development of culture and fine arts in Cambodia, for nurturing creativity and innovation and for promoting the diverse Cambodian cultural heritage.
It does this by implementing policies for protecting, preserving and heightening the values of the national cultural heritage and other cultural properties of the Kingdom of Cambodia by:
– controlling tourist sites, archaeology, urbanism and history;
– researching and promoting the values of national culture and traditional customs;
– encouraging creating virtues and the communication and development of cultural activities;
– funding the Royal University of Fine Arts with a view to training artists, musicians, architects, archaeologists and other culturally related experts in co-operation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
The Ministry processes legislation for arts and culture and supervises and supports designated national cultural institutions and organisations. It comprises the Cabinet, three Directorates General, the Centre for Cultural Research and the Royal University of Fine Arts (RUFA).
