2015 marks 50 years of independence of Singapore. To mark this anniversary, the EU Center in Singapore is launching a short documentary competition that celebrates the unique role that Europe and Europeans have played in Singapore’s development.

The subject matter of the competition would be any location / association / topic that capture and reflect on the connections  between Singapore and Europe. Filmmakers are invited to craft documentaries reflecting on the connections between Singapore and Europe since 1965 that can be seen through institutional, sociocultural or people-to-people ties. These can consist of interviews and/or creative visual representations. The submitted documentaries should tell unique stories that celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of Singapore’s ties with Europe.


Eligibility


All  Singaporeans, Permanent Residents and residents on long-term permits can participate. Participation can be on an individual basis or a group submission make up of up to five members. Each individual or a team of up to five members may make only one submission.

Films must not be more than 7 minutes in duration. The Content can be in any language, but where it is not in English, English subtitles must be provided.

There is no entry fee for this competition. However, any postage fees for film submissions shall be borne by the film makers.


Prizes


There will be cash prizes awaiting the top three winners of the competition:

1st Prize: S$3,000
2nd Prize: S$2,000
3rd Prize: S$1,000

There will also be two consolation prizes worth S$500 each.


Submission of Entries


The deadline for entries is 6 April 2015, 6pm Singapore time. There can be no extension of this deadline.

Participants  must send their films in either MPEG 4 or Quicktime File format on a DVD disc. The film must be accompanied by the following items:

  1. A copy of the official competition entry form (must be printed and signed by individual or all group members)

  2. A short one page CV for each group member

  3. A short synopsis of the documentary film
