European Research Council travel grants for Thai researchers

European Research Council (ERC) and Thailand’s Program Management Unit for Human Resources and Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B) are calling for applications from Thai researchers (including in the arts) to apply for research visits to Europe.

ERC and PMU-B signed an Administrative Arrangement on 9 September 2022 to further cooperation between Thailand and the European Union (EU). This programme supports Thai researchers to carry out research visits and to pursue frontier research collaborations in thematic area of mutual interest with European research team supported by ERC grants.

The thematic areas of interest include (among others):

  • Cultures and Cultural Production
  • The Study of the Human Past
  • The Social World and Its Diversity
  • Institutions, Governance and Legal Systems

Duration

Thai researchers may carry out research visits with ERC-supported European teams through single and long-term visits (3–12 months) or multiple short-term visits (1–3 months).

What is supported?

For Thai researchers:

  • Travel grant
  • Monthly living allowance according to the PMU-B guidelines
  • Visa fees
  • Health insurance coverage for the duration of the research visits

For those ERC-supported European teams who host a Thai researcher:

  • PMU-B will also offer funding for the Principal Investigator of the ERC funded project to visit the Thai researcher’s university or institute in Thailand for up to one week. PMU-B would cover return economy airfare, accommodation and living costs.

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to Thai researchers who are affiliated with the universities and/or research institutions in Thailand for the thematic area of mutual interest.
