The focus of the 11th international literature festival berlin is the Asian-Pacific region. The goal is to make the literature and culture of the region accessible for an interested audience, to promote mutual understanding and to inspire contact and a lively exchange among authors, artists and mediators. The festival organisers aim to establish a platform in Berlin which will allow guests from the Asian-Pacific region the chance to authentically share their literature and their intellectual, cultural and political attitudes. The festival organisers are concerned with the question: what topics affect the countries of Asian-Pacific region? The international literature festival berlin presents a wide literary variety of contemporary prose and poetry from around the world. The extensive programme is divided into three main parts and also includes other additional sections, such as the scientific and literary interview and discussion forum, “Reflections”. The selection for Literatures of the World is made by the festival’s organisers supported by an international network of curators and friends and by the jurors, internationally renowned experts in the literature of their regions. The International Children’s and Youth Literature part of the programme offers many widely diverse readings and exhibitions, both in and outside of schools. The aim of this section of the programme is to promote reading amongst children and young people, to enable them to develop their emotional, social and artistic skills. The authors in this category are recommended by an internationally recognised network of trustees. The literature included spans from picture books to children’s and young adults’ literature.
