Hong Kong coproduction platform announces its line-up

The 9th Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), to be held at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 21-23 March 2011, announced today (January 6th, 2011) its selection of 28 outstanding film projects from 13 territories, including China, Hong Kong, France, Finland, India, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Roger GARCIA, Executive Director of The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, commented, “We are encouraged that HAF continues to attract projects that reflect the depth and breadth of creativity in the region, aspire to reach wider audiences, and develop the art and industry of the cinema in our time. Every year we strive to act as the meeting place between filmmakers and the financiers, distributors, buyers and others in the international film industry who can help realise their projects. The development and funding of an independent film is often a long and arduous process. I hope that HAF can help in this process by nurturing long-lasting relationships and networks that are part of the support system for any filmmaker.”

This year, HAF continues to attract projects from world-class talents. Well known for his sensitive portrayals of women and romantic affairs, Hong Kong Film Awards Best Director and Best Picture winner Stanley KWAN Kam-pang, is presenting his new project To The End of Love. The film will be produced by Willie CHAN, one of Hong Kong’s premier talent managers and producers.  Another featured talent is CHUNG Mong-Hong, whose recent work Fourth Portrait (2010) won four major awards at the 47th Taipei Golden Horse Awards, including Best Director and Outstanding Taiwanese Film of the Year.  Other veteran filmmakers include Japan’s KANEKO Shusuke, whose most stunning work Death Note has been acclaimed world-wide, and Vietnam’s Chuyen BUI THAC, whose recent work Adrift (HAF 2009) won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 66th Venice Film Festival and was screened at several prestigious international film festivals.
