ASEF supports Curating-in-Depth | Curatorial practices in Slovenia, Croatia and the Philippines
On 6-16 May 2015 in
Ljubljana, Slovenia, emerging curators, artists and students from Slovenia, the Philippines and Croatia will meet to exchange views on contemporary curatorial practices in Asia and Europe.
Through a series of lectures, workshops, field study tours and exhibitions,
Curating-In- Depth will investigate initiatives in the field of contemporary curatorial practices. The project will address in particular the
increasingly common trend of ‘parachuting curators’ that rely on minimum engagement with the local context in the curating process. The project also aims to
strengthen Asia-Europe non-governmental institutional collaborations and to confront evident challenges in the still neglected field of curating and mediating the arts.
Part 2 of
Curating-in-Depth will see the same group of curators, artists and critics meet in the
Philippines in August 2015, for another 2-week intensive exchange. Through this
reciprocal mobility between Slovenia, Croatia and the Philippines, the project aims to increase the
knowledge sharing on good practices for curating the contemporary visual arts. ASEF will also attend the opening of the NSK exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana on 11 May 2015.
Curating-In-Depth is one of the 3 selected projects of
Creative Encounters: Cultural Partnerships between Asia and Europe (4th Edition). Project partners include
SCCA, Centre for Contemporary Arts – Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Philippines based art center
Planting Rice, with the support of Croatian arts platform
Kurziv.
