Chiang Mai House of Photography, Thailand

The Chiang Mai House of Photography is a centre for collecting and preserving photography of northern Thailand as well as offering photographs of temple murals from the Lanna period in this area. Collection documentation, preservation and research follow international standards. The mission of the Chiang Mai House of Photography promotes learning and knowledge exchange in order to increase understanding of local heritage through visual communication, exhibition and activities with the community. Public access is open and free to all. The facilities include an exhibition gallery, collection management and storage space, meeting area and library with free wi-fi for study and other activities. The Chiang Mai House of Photography is a museum created by the Department of Media Arts and Design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University. It is associated with and located on the grounds of the Chiang Mai City Museum complex. Permanent collections:

Photography of Chiang Mai, Nan, Phrae, northern Thailand and associated areas in Lao PDR and Myanmar, dating back over 100 years to the current time. These include work by local, national and international photographers working in the region, as well as family collections.
Photographs documenting historic temple murals in the area.

The archive of the House of Photography is accessible and regularly updated online. A library of books on photography and photographic exhibitions (local, national, regional and international) are also available.
