japanfoundationlogoOpen call for grants through the Japan Foundation's 'Strengthening Cultural Exchange in Asia' programmes. The Japan Foundation Asia Center connects the people of Asia, expands networks, and co-creates Asian cultures with the goal of fostering awareness of empathy and coexistence amongst the residents of Asia through such concepts as "Communicate", "Connect and Share", "Collaborate", "Create".

Grants are available under several different programme strands:


  • Grant Program for Enhancing People-to-People Exchange




This program aims to support Japanese organizations by providing grants to partially cover expenses of implementing exchange projects at grassroots or regional levels, aiming to expand the base for exchange and to promote understanding and friendship among the people of Asia.

ELIGIBILITY: Non-profit organisations in Japan may apply - application form in Japanese only. See website for information on ASEAN organisations.


  • Grant Program for Promotion of Cultural Collaboration




This program provides grants to partially cover expenses incurred by specialists/specialist organizations in the fields of arts and culture, sports, or intellectual exchange in Asia which aims to conduct collaborative projects such as co-productions, joint researches, and projects to disseminate the results of these collaborative projects. The goal of the grant is to foster an awareness of empathy and coexistence among the people of Asia, including Japan, through collaboration.

ELIGIBILITY: Organizations based in 10 ASEAN countries or Japan which aim to implement international collaborative projects between Japan and Asia.


  • The Asia Center Fellowship Program




This program provides fellowship opportunities for specialists in Asia that are involved in activities such as conducting research, creative work, and building networks and platforms across a wide range of fields including arts and culture, sports, and intellectual exchange. The goal of this program is to promote collaborative and cooperative projects that cross national boundaries as well as to further nurture cultural specialists in Asia.

ELIGIBILITY: Specialists who are nationals of / permanent residents in Japan or 10 ASEAN countries, and who are engaged in research, creative activities and building networks and platforms in fields such as arts and culture, sports, and intellectual exchange.
